Testing an audio system. Loudness tests being carried out in an anechoic chamber, a room that absorbs sound and has little echoing from its surfaces. The tests are comparing the loudness of diffuse (multidirectional) and progressive (unidirectional) sound fields. Photographed at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, UK, in 1959.
