It is a sociable animal, living in family units of adult females and juveniles. The adult male leads a solitary existence, until the mating season when it will approach females. Although found in many habitats throughout sub-Saharan Africa, the African elephant is considered to be a vulnerable species. Photographed near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
