Augmentin antibiotic pillsAugmentin antibiotic pills. These antibioticpills, still in their blister pack, contain 250milligrams (mg) of the penicillin drug amoxycillin trihydrate and 125mg of potassium clavulanate .Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation ofbacterial cell walls. The potassium clavulanatedenatures a bacterial enzyme that can break downthe amoxycillin, making the preparation moreeffective than amoxycillin alone. This is a broadspectrum antibiotic, used to treat a variety ofinfections.
